I love all my work with Club des Femmes! We are a queer feminist collective. We curate film screenings and events. Our mission is to offer a freed up space for the re-examination of ideas through art. In the age of the sound-bite, Club des Femmes is a much-needed open platform for more radical contextualisation and forward-looking future vision: a chance to look beyond the mainstream.

I’ve been doing bits of pieces with the collective since 2016 (thanks to work experience during my masters at Birkbeck), lots of marketing bits, including running social media for the mega UK wide film tour Revolt She Said: Women & Film After ’68 in 2018, you can read about my hunt for local feminist groups all around the UK here. During the tour I also got a chance to introduce Daisies (dir. by Vera Chytilova) at the Phoenix cinema in Leicester & I chatted to a bunch of amazing young programmers about audience development at a BFI Film Academy workshop!

Daisies!

I got stuck into curating with them for our collaboration with London Short Film Festival in 2019. We screened Pratibha Parmar’s documentary A Place of Rage alongside shorts about poetry and protest, the event details are here. That year at LSFF I also collaborated on two shorts programmes for the festival called IRL & FILTER.

I’ve written bits and pieces for the CdF website, including a review of the Woman with a Movie Camera event at the BFI in 2018 (spoilers: I wasn’t totally impressed). During 2020, as the UK lockdown halted our film screening plans, we set up Culture Club for our friends and colleagues to write about the cultural things that were getting them through the lockdown, I wrote about my other passion for embroidery & the sewing history book by Clare Hunter Threads of Life, find it here & all the other fantastic Culture Club pieces are here.

Not directly a CdF event, but in 2018 I turned myself into a human megaphone for So Mayer at the Scottish Queer International Film Festival. They were ill and unable to travel & give their talk titled “BOOM BUST: Feminist Filmmakers Blowing Up the Canon“, so I did my best to do the talk justice!
