I have to start with my care programme, this was the first programme I really pursued and a significant number of films from my other programmes did a stint blu-tacked in this one. The print title I suggested for this programme was ‘In This Together’, that was just a few weeks before that phrase became tangled with endless marketing for an ineffectual response to the pandemic. This film was born out of a desire to showcase narratives about acts of care and carework, and in fact you can find one of those original careworker narratives in another one of my programmes; but it developed beyond that premise. Expanding the meaning of care beyond definable actions or employment and into thoughts of community, family and ancestry, looking at bonds and connections; caring as an aspect of love, for others, yourself, your community.
