I never really found a good title for this programme, ‘out of place’ felt and still feels a bit negative, a bit too forced for what this programme ended up being. It is almost a flip of my environmental themed programme, these narratives are less about physical environments and more about social surroundings. The shorts here are about individual experiences within confusing, uncomfortable, unfamiliar and sometimes outright hostile social spaces; they are also all incredibly charming and often funny. These are all the kind of short films I love (all my programmes are of course), they take you on a journey with a single character and really bring all the details and quirks of daily lives to the forefront. For me personally some of the narratives were completely outside of my knowledge and experience and some of the situations were all too relatable, but all the filmmakers succeeded in capturing the different essences of these experiences and sweeping you up into these lives just for 10-20mins or so.
